The gems of life
When I arrive at the castle, after being away for a few days, I meet three gentlemen—three brothers who have rented the entire castle. Every year, they come together to celebrate life and make beautiful memories, taking a break without their wives and children.
Each year, one of the brothers is ‘in charge’ of organizing these days, and everything on the trip is a surprise.
On their way to Luxembourg, they had a pub quiz in the car. They answered questions about the 1920s, solved mysteries like Sherlock Holmes, discovered where Luxembourg’s wealth comes from, and took a step back into the Belle Époque era.
When they arrive at the castle, they suddenly understand where they’ve arrived and recognize the themed rooms: Roaring '20s, Sherlock, Tribute, and Peggy’s Belle Époque. They are in awe and toss a coin to decide who sleeps where.
And what inspiring guests they were! They shared their adventures from the past few days with me—mountain biking, a cooking workshop, dining at a Michelin-starred vegetarian restaurant. For these meat-loving men, it was quite a shock at first, but they thoroughly enjoyed it. I saw stunning, delicious, and unique dishes in the photos they showed me.
They were deeply moved by the Family of Man museum and, to top it off, planned to hike in the Mullerthal, which is at its most beautiful now with all the autumn colors. They packed as many of Luxembourg's gems into their trip as possible.
With hearts full of beautiful memories, big smiles, and a cheerful “see you next time,” we said goodbye.
